Accept card payments with Stripe

myShop supports Stripe alongside PayPal. Both route money to your organization's own account — myblueboard never holds your funds.

Stripe is also what powers in-person card sales: Tap to Pay on iPhone and Stripe card readers both need a connected Stripe account.

How the money moves

When a purchaser pays by card, the charge is created with your connected Stripe account as the destination. Net funds land in your Stripe account, and myblueboard's commission is taken automatically as part of the same transaction.

There's no separate invoice for commission and no step where funds sit with myblueboard. Payouts from your Stripe balance to your bank run on Stripe's schedule, which you control in your own Stripe dashboard.

Before you start

You'll need a Stripe account for your organization, and Admin Access or Financials Access in myblueboard.

Stripe will ask for details about your organization and its banking during onboarding. Requirements vary — a booster club and a school district may be asked for different things. That's set by Stripe, not myblueboard.

Connecting

  1. Go to Settings → Financials. The Payment processors section shows PayPal and Stripe side by side with their connection status.
  2. Under Stripe, click Connect Stripe.
  3. You're handed off to Stripe's own sign-in. Sign in (or create the account), approve the connection, and you're returned to myblueboard automatically. You never enter Stripe API keys into myblueboard.

When you come back you'll land on one of two outcomes:

  • Ready to accept payments — Stripe confirmed the account can take charges and you've submitted everything required. Stripe is switched on for every payment type that didn't already have a processor (see below).
  • Almost there — the connection worked, but Stripe still wants more information. Finish verification in your Stripe dashboard, then come back and click Reconnect Stripe. The reconnect step is what refreshes myblueboard's view of your status.

Either way you'll get a confirmation email recording the outcome, and the page offers a button back to Settings › Financials — and, once verified, straight on to card reader setup.

You can Disconnect later from the same place. Doing so stops Stripe payments until a processor is connected again, so avoid it mid-sale.

Choosing a processor for each type of payment

Stripe and PayPal are not either/or. Under Settings → Financials → Which processor handles each type of payment, online fees, online myShop orders and in-person POS sales each pick their own processor — and the POS only takes cards through Stripe. The full comparison and the per-type settings are on Payment processors.

What purchasers see

A card form on the checkout page. They enter card details and pay without leaving your store and without needing an account anywhere.

Stripe's payment form supports the wallets Stripe enables for your account, so many purchasers see Apple Pay or Google Pay as an option on their phone.

Refunds

Stripe card orders — online or in person — are refunded from myblueboard, and the order keeps track of what's been returned.

  1. Open the order in the myShop Dashboard (View Order).
  2. In the Refund panel, leave the amount as-is for a full refund or type a smaller amount for a partial one. Add a reason if you like — it's kept on the order.
  3. Click Refund and confirm.

The money goes back to the card the purchaser used, normally within 5–10 business days depending on their bank.

Refunding a sale from the last day or two

A card sale reaches your Stripe balance as pending and settles in about two business days. A refund before then is turned down with a message saying the funds aren't available yet — nothing is changed on the order. Try again once the sale has settled.

The order shows the refunded amount and, once everything has been returned, its status becomes Refunded. Partial refunds can be repeated until the order is fully refunded.

myblueboard's commission on the sale is not returned when you refund. Stripe's own processing fee is governed by Stripe's refund policy.

Refunds issued directly in your Stripe dashboard are picked up too — the order updates on its own, so the dashboard never claims a sale that has actually been reversed.

Refunds from the POS Sales list work the same way; see Point of Sale View.

Ticket orders

Refunding an order that contained event tickets does not void the tickets — see Selling tickets through myShop.

Activity

Settings → Financials → Activity (under Stripe) shows your connected account's status and any outstanding Stripe requirements, your Stripe balance and recent payouts, and every Stripe payment taken through myblueboard with a link to the myShop order or fee invoice it paid for. Each row opens a detail with the card used and a link to the same payment in your Stripe dashboard.

Troubleshooting

"Stripe is not configured for this school" at checkout means Stripe isn't connected, or the processor for that payment type is set to something else. Check Settings → Financials.

Onboarding said "almost there" and payments still don't work. Finish what Stripe is asking for in your Stripe dashboard, then click Reconnect Stripe. Verification finishing on Stripe's side doesn't update myblueboard on its own.

Payments fail for everyone, suddenly. Check the Activity page and your Stripe dashboard — Stripe pauses charges when account requirements go unmet, and it notifies the email on the Stripe account, which may not be the person watching myShop.

"The school's Stripe balance doesn't have these funds available yet." The sale hasn't settled — see the note under Refunds. Retry in a day or two.

A payment succeeded in Stripe but no order appeared. Contact myblueboard support with the Stripe payment ID. Don't re-charge the purchaser.
